Power BI is an extension of Microsoft Excel made for data. It combines the PowerQuery functionality for data cleaning with a more comprehensive Pivot Charts functionality for visualization. It is thus a cross between Excel and Tableau, though Tableau has some nicer features for visualization. If you have used either of those functions in Excel, you will feel more at home in Power BI.

• Power BI Desktop is free for anybody.
  • The Desktop version must be used with Microsoft Windows.
  • Mac users need to use Power BI through Office 365 online (there is no Desktop version for the Mac).
• Mason Faculty have Power BI Pro through their Mason Office 365 accounts
  • Pro users can share Dashboards with others.
