Geospatial Data & GIS

ESRI's ArcGIS software includes several powerful mapping softwares that enables analyzing and visualizing geospatial data. Mason has a site license so it can be installed on any Mason-owned computer, and some student computers,

• ArcMap (ArcGIS) Desktop 
• ArcGIS Pro - Offers 3D visualization and integration with ArcGIS Online.
• ArcGIS Online - Online only.

Access to ArcGIS Pro & Desktop

• ITS Computer Labs
• For installation information, see Mason COS ESRI ArcGIS Information from or ITS ArcGIS Access:
  • Windows only (Macs and others can use with virtual machines like Parallels).
  • Please check computer requirements for Pro or Desktop (e.g., Pro requires 64-bit).
  • Go to:  https://mygmu.maps.arcgis.com  and log in to Mason SSO (with 2FA).
  • Then follow the step by step instructions for Pro or Desktop.
  • Contact Na Liu (nliu1@gmu.edu) or ITS if you don't have authorization to use Pro.
  • For Desktop only: Download a 60 days free trial version.

Access to ArcGIS Online

• Go to: https://mygmu.maps.arcgis.com 
  • Click on "George Mason University", then log in with Mason NetID (with 2 Factor Authorization).
  • Once logged in, click on the "Map" button on the toolbar. This will open up ArcGIS Online.
  • If you don't see the "Analysis' option when you open the Map tab with the Online, please contact Na Liu (nliu1@gmu.edu) in COS or Jack Tieszen (jtieszen@gmu.edu) in Data & Digital Scholarship Services, University Libraries.
