George Mason University Libraries offers many resources and services to help you share your work with the world.
These databases are great resources for locating journals in your field. You can also use them to evaluate a journal's citation metrics or see how reputable they are. (Check with your colleagues and tenure committee for more information on journal publishing and promotion for your college).
Open Access Publishing is the process of allowing your work to be accessible worldwide for free! This is a contrast to traditional publishing which often puts research behind a paywall. OA agreements are put in place to pay for fees associated with this process.
Currently all OA agreements at George Mason are through our VIVA consortium. The ones most relevant to education are included in this table.
Publisher | Availability of Funding | Author Resources | Examples of Education-related Journal Titles Included in Agreement |
---|---|---|---|
Springer | through December 31, 2025 | Springer Open Access agreement for VIVA |
|
Cambridge University Press | through December 31, 2025 | Cambridge University Press VIVA Transformative Agreement |
|
Wiley | Through December 31, 2024 | VIVA Wiley Agreement |
|
For a full list of Journal titles covered in each agreement, visit the VIVA Title List page and locate the publisher name and corresponding Excel Sheet. For Cambridge's journal list, download the Locating Open Access Journals in Cambridge tutorial document.
Mason Archival Repository Services (MARS) is an institutional repository. Many author agreements allow you to publish a version of your work in these repositories to allow free access.
Sometimes it is hard to find or remember what agreements you signed when you published your journal article. Or maybe this is your first time learning about metrics. Use the resources below to help you in this process.
If you have questions about publishing (open access and traditional), open pedagogy, or copyright, contact or meet with with Emilie Algenio, Open Educational Resources and Scholarly Communications Lead.
