Like units across the University, the Libraries will absorb substantial budget reductions in FY24 and FY25. The memo linked below outlines the Libraries’ approach to these budget cuts and their anticipated impact on our collections. In brief, in FY24, we are cancelling many print subscriptions and achieving additional cost savings through database and e-journal cancellations and book purchase reductions. FY25 will bring larger cuts, for which we are seeking broad input. As some print and online journal content will be affected by these cuts, we are developing a plan for even more robust, on-demand access to unsubscribed journal content.
In Spring 2024, we will provide a variety of opportunities for the university community to tell us how potential resource cancellations would impact their research and teaching. We will provide advance notice of subscription cancellations whenever possible, and we will keep you informed about our increasingly efficient options for accessing resources no longer in our collections. Of course, we will also share updates about any new resources made available via our consortial partnerships, open access, and other innovative collective action approaches.
In the meantime, we encourage you to share your questions and comments by reaching out to your subject librarian or filling out the feedback form linked below.
In February, the Libraries will hold two hybrid town hall meetings:
Please join us in the Fenwick Library Reading Room (room 2001, go up the main staircase to the second floor and make a u-turn) or via Zoom (email libcoll@gmu.edu for Zoom information).
