QUANTitative Analysis & Statistics

This is a "starting point" guide for those taking a statistics and [quantitative] data analysis courses and/or doing a data analysis project.
On this page:
  • Textbooks: Written materials, some with labs or exercises, that cover the standard topics.
  • Interactives: Applets or visuals that illustrate concepts.

Textbooks

Although the materials from your professor are the best (especially as there are multiple ways of doing some things), sometimes it can be helpful to have an alternative resource that presents the material differently.

Includes videos, labs (for R-Base, R-Tidyverse, Jamovi, SAS, and Stata), slides, and instructor-only resources like sample exams. See also their Introduction to Modern Statistics textbook, using R, which introduces Regressions early along with data explorations.

Statistical Reasoning (Open Learning Initiative)
Free for self-learners, low cost for classes, and Interactive (with Quizzes and Exercises)

Originally published in the British Medical Journal in 1997. Great for biostatisticians who can handle equations. (No ANOVA, some multiple regressions).

LibreTexts TM Statistics

A compilation of open-source statistics books and their resources (e.g., Worksheets are from OpenStax).

Interactive Visualizations

See the Collections tab for sites with multiple interactives.

Suggested Tools for Common Topics

Collections

Play with the central limit theorem, sampling, p-values, regression residuals, and best fit lines.

  • Interactive applets (StatCrunch/Pearson Education) - a large collection of standard introductory applets
  • Statistics Visualizations (UBC Zoology Department) - a small collection of interactives with real data
  • Jamovi and JASP Modules (links to video demo) - small collections of standard introductory demonstrators
