POGO 646: Policy & Program Evaluation

A guide for students in the Policy & Program Evaluation course.

Types of Programs to Choose From

For your assignment, you may choose a federal, state, or local program to evaluate.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When determining the program to evaluate, remember you need to choose a program that has reports to evaluate with given results. It's suggested to select a program that has been around for at least 10 years, as this allows time for it to be studied and have published data.

These programs have been used by students in previous iterations of POGO 646:

  • WIC
  • SNAP
  • Ryan White CARE Act (HIV/AIDS)
  • No Child Left Behind
  • Medicare
  • Medicaid
  • CHIP
  • EITC

This is not an exhaustive list of program options, but an example for when you start thinking of what you're interested in.

Browse Policy Evaluation Organizations

Government agencies often contract out their program evaluations to organizations such as those listed below.

Note: Many of these evaluations will show up on agency websites or as journal articles.
