Search Literature Indexes

The following literature database indexes can point you to literature on particular topics by providing exact citations and summaries (or abstracts). Indexes use their own subject headings also. Some only index periodicals, while others index additional types of literature.

  • Anthropology Plus - Index of bibliographic materials combining Anthropological Literature from Harvard University and Anthropological Index from the Royal Anthropological Institute. Provides worldwide indexing of various literature formats in the fields of anthropology, archeology, ethnology, folklore, material culture, and related interdisciplinary research from early 19th century to today.   • Music Index - Citations from hundreds of international music periodicals from 1970 to present, covering every aspect of classical and popular music. View a tutorial on this database here.
  • Music Periodicals Database - The coverage of this is somewhat less than RILM, but this index links most of its citations to digitized full-text downloadable versions. Some complete journal runs are included, with indexing back to 1874. View a tutorial on this database here.
  • RILM Abstracts of Musical Literature - This covers magazine and journal articles, authored books (including conference proceedings and Festschriften) and the indivudal chapters/articles/essays within them, dissertations and critical-edition scores, from English as well as foreign-language sources, some content coverage extends to the late 18th century.   • Sociological Abstracts - Abstracts and indexes the international literature of sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences. Contains citations and abstracts from thousands of literature formats from 1952 to present. View a tutorial on this database here.
