Welcome to the Green Living infoguide! This guide was developed as part of a presentation that was given at the Virginia Library Association Paraprofessional Forum meeting held in Richmond, VA in May, 2010.
The concept of "green living" or "a sustainable lifestyle" has garnered much press in the past few years as individuals, schools, organizations and corporations have sought ways to swap their non-green habits for more environmentally friendly, sustainable behaviors. The resources on this guide are intended to provide users with a starting point for getting information on green living.
State of Virginia Agencies
- Virginia Department of Environmental QualityWebsite for the Virginia state agency charged with overseeing recycling and waste programs statewide.
- Virginia NaturallyThis website is a portal to environmental education resources, watershed maps, lesson plans, community events, etc.

- Energy StarEPA website providing information about the Energystar Program. Find information on Energystar products, energy efficient home improvements, etc.
- EPA Reduce, Reuse, RecycleProvides information ways to reduce the amount of waste you generate, including resuing, recycling, composting, etc.
- National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR)Provides information on climate and atmospheric research programs. Also has educational resources for children (National Science Foundation).
- US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- Energy Information Administration, DOEFind environment related emissions data, information on green house gases, environmental analyses. etc. Also includes emissions forecasts.
