How to get software?

ESRI's ArcGIS software can be installed on the Mason owned computers. See the FAQs site for details on how to obtain a copy of ArcGIS software and to take ESRI's Virtual Campus site.

Libraries GIS Services

The Libraries provide access to a wide range of data resources: on-going GIS reference and research consultation, assistance to using GIS software such as Arcview and ArcGIS through GIS@Fenwick workshop.

The Libraries also collaborate other university programs to incorporate GIS technology into the curriculum. Our latest collaboration project among the Libraries, the Social Work Department, and Technology Across the Curriculum (TAC) was to develop a Video tutorial to help SOWC 352 (Social Policy and Social Justice) students learn GIS to do their assignment for social service planning.

Need help? Just ask -- I look forward to working with you!

GIS Facilities

Many GIS software products such as ESRI's ArcGIS are available through Mason's campus site license. The government document unit in Fenwick Library provides ArcView and ArcGIS 9.3 on four workstations. Statistical softwares such as SPSS, SAS, STATA are also available on these workstations. Preference to use these products will be given to Mason affiliates.

ArcGIS is also available on the computers in the Instruction Room located on the 2nd floor in Fenwick Library for class instruction.

Many department labs on campus provide ArcGIS software, but the access might be limited to only those students taking their courses. Fenwick Library and Instructional Resource Center in Johnson Center provide open access for the software to any Mason affiliates. Please check the open hours.
